Ronnie Lott, a 2000 inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, will be the keynote speaker at CTA Expo in Chicago on September 13, 2011. He will speak on what he learned in professional football than has helped him achieve success in the business world.

Ronnie Lott's legendary career included four Super Bowl titles and 10 Pro-Bowl appearances. He retired from professional football in 1994 after having played 10 seasons with the 49ers, plus additional years with the Oakland Raiders and New York Jets. Using the lessons the learned in professional sports, Ronnie built a successful career in business, including running a fund of funds with over $2B under management. He also is the founder of "All Stars Helping Kids", which supports disadvantaged youth throughout the nation.

John Gallwas: What are the key lessons you learned from professional sports that you found helpful in your business career?

Ronnie Lott: Learning how to lose, how to deal with adversity, and how to persevere. Each time you face a challenge you're going to find ways to deal with setbacks. In those cases there are many lessons about how to change momentum, change the team and the mindset, and how to recognize the positive things you can do while you're losing.

John Gallwas: Which of these lessons do you believe still apply today's business environment?

Ronnie Lott: Dealing with setbacks and taking steps to learn from each one in the moment. Each time you face a challenge you will learn how to reevaluate the situation and break it down. Even though the business environment seems to be getting better you still have to be mindful of the blind spots and be mindful of how rapidly things are changing. You have to be patient as well, and realize that the world is not going to be like it was in the early 2000s.

John Gallwas: As most of the September CTA Expo attendees are participants in the financial services industry, in view of your experience in running a managed fund organization, what will be the key points in your September presentation in Chicago?

Ronnie Lott: I think the key points are, 1: realizing that you have got to take it one yard at a time, 2: making sure that as you look at adversity you still celebrate the small wins, and 3: exhaust everything that you can exhaust, in each aspect of your life.

Ronnie Lott: In 1989, I founded All Stars Helping Kids with the passionate belief in changing the lives of kids in the San Francisco Bay Area.
