Petr Kominek
System Developer, Quantraders.com
Program(s) Developed: Driver Trading Systems
Interviewed by Martin Lembak
The driver systems, led by Driver NQ, will cross the one-year actual results track record next month. Quantrader.com is a rising name in the industry.
Martin Lembak: Hello Petr, tell us a bit about yourself, where do you live to raise your family?
Petr Kominek: Well, I am 40 years old. I was born in the north of the Czech Republic in town Most. I spent my childhood near my birthplace in Litvinov, the town of ice hockey. In addition to trading and development, I founded a business firm a decade ago that works successfully. I am also the owner of quantraders.com. Now I live with my wife and children near Litvinov in our house. Martin Lembak: How the idea of developing automated trading systems did come to you, is it related to your background? Petr Kominek: I learned about trading while looking for earnings on the Internet, so I read the many articles and I knew right away that this is what I want to do. I started to read books and slowly learned what trading was about. After about two years I jumped into live futures trading, but I quickly realized that trading is not really that easy. After a while, I decided to leave discretionary trading and to get involved in programming. I slowly learned to code and penetrated into algo-trading. I must emphasize the importance of high quality backtest and robustness tests for trading. It was a long way, but it paid off a lot, and now my job is my hobby. Martin Lembak: Can you describe your basic market philosophy? Petr Kominek: If you want to make money on the market, your strategy must have strong fundamental basis! Martin Lembak: Your menu of fully automated trading systems uses technical tools to produce short-term trading signals for futures markets. Is there a common trading theory for your trading systems or are they based on different parameters? Petr Kominek: Trading is not easy, but it may not be complicated. I've been wandering for a few years in trading and looking for a start, trying unnecessarily complicated ways. Now I know for sure in simplicity is power. I'm building all my systems as idea-first, the system must have a maximum of 1-2 fixed input parameters. From my experience this brings the highest robustness of the system, the common theory is again a strong fundamental logic! Martin Lembak: Do you have anything in the "What's New" category you would like to share with our readers? Petr Kominek: I'm very pleased to be able to offer all the traders and investors new strategies in addition to currently running DRIVER systems here at Striker. By the end of 2019, I will have several more new trading systems, two smaller portfolios and one big portfolio traded at Striker. All the portfolios I'm preparing are now being tested on my server and live accounts, I will be very pleased to see that the new strategies will be ready and run for clients at Striker at the end of the year. Martin Lembak: For other developers or traders reading this interview, what books do or study courses you recommend for someone to learn how to program trading systems? Petr Kominek: I myself have learned to program in C # only from the Ninja Trader Guide and Easy Language Essentials. Surely, it is very good to read books and go through courses from traders who can show their real results! As the excellent ones I can recommend the courses of Petr Podhajsky at financnik.cz or by Tomas Nesnidal at systemsontheroad.com who are the experienced traders and lecturers. I would recommend to everyone, do not be afraid to code. A comprehensive out of sample "OOS" backtest will help you a lot in the beginnings of the systems you trade. Programming does not require complex codes, simple codes on several lines, if they have the force of logic, can work for many years. I wish all readers good trading!
